Bethany Hooper, President, received the 2016 award for her numerous contributions to the affordable housing industry in Maryland over the last 25 years from the Maryland Affordable Housing Coalition (MAHC).
In addition to serving as President of Humphrey Management, she is a Board Member of the Anne Arundel Affordable Housing Coalition, the Columbia Downtown Housing Corporation, and a past Board member of the Women’s Housing Coalition and Maryland Affordable Housing Coalition.
The MAHC Housing Person of the Year Award acknowledges an individual who has made both significant contributions to affordable rental housing in Maryland and who has worked to help advance the interest of the affordable rental housing community in Maryland through advocacy, participation in policy or program improvements, or other volunteer efforts that have benefited housing for low and moderate income persons.
Bethany said, “I was so surprised and humbled when told about the award. It energizes me to continue the much needed work to make affordable housing available to everyone.”
Ms. Hooper is an active participant on three MAHC Committees, and has become a reliable and valuable resource for others in the industry. She has appeared in several advocacy videos created by MAHC and the Community Development Network to help educate the public and elected officials on the benefits of affordable housing and the role and responsibilities of property management. Bethany learned the meaning of “community” from her father, Jim who was the first President of MAHC and founder of Humphrey Management.
She became the President in 2005 and she is the sole owner of the company. Under her leadership Humphrey has been named as one of the Top Women Owned Businesses for the last two years by the Baltimore Business Journal and a “Top Workplace” by The Baltimore Sun and The Washington Post for the past four years.
